Bal Vidya School Development Program

The Balavidya Project commenced in the year 2008, after Karnataka State Council for Child Welfare conducted a survey on various government schools in Bangalore North. Children in these schools belong to the economically weaker families who are mostly daily wage labourers. Our study found that many children were malnourished due to their families’ limited income. Some children even had to deal with the hardships of abusive homes with alcoholic father. In the light of these findings, KSCCW has adopted 5 government schools located in Hesarghatta namely, Vaderahalli, Doddbyalakere, Shivakote, Somashettihalli and Mavallipura to improve the overall development of the children, to impact health condition and academic progress in them. Over the past few years, nearly 500 students have been provided with daily nutrition in the morning.

Para teachers from the local areas have been placed in each of these schools to monitor the growth development of the children, conduct home visit and provide nutrition supplement everyday. Summer camps and medical camps are organised for these children annually.
