Our mission
The all-round development of every child and woman we reach.
We work across education, health, nutrition, care and livelihoods so that children born without privilege — and the women who raise them — can grow, learn and stand on their own.

- Empowering women and children through literacy — providing educational support to less-privileged children from their school years through graduation, and empowering young women from rural and backward regions through literacy, skill-development training and employment opportunities
Constituted in May 1955 as the Mysore State Council for Child Welfare and registered in 1961, we were renamed the Karnataka State Council for Child Welfare in 1990. Today we run care homes, crèches, a training institute and sponsorship programmes.
A salute to our founder
Smt. Lokasundari Raman
Wife of Nobel Laureate Sir C.V. Raman, Smt. Lokasundari Raman was our founder and first President. Moved by the plight of children neglected by poverty, she began a small play school and library in her own home in Malleshwaram, Bengaluru — the modest beginning of what grew into KSCCW.
She served as President from 1955 to 1977 and as Life Patron until her passing in May 1980. She remains the beacon that guides our commitment to the causes she so passionately championed.

Milestones, 1955 – today
A council is born
Founded as the Mysore State Council for Child Welfare, at "Panchavati", Lady Raman's House in Malleshwaram, Bangalore.
Registered as a non-profit
Registered as a non-profit voluntary organisation, with affiliation to the Indian Council for Child Welfare, New Delhi.
Balasevika Training begins
The Bangalore Balasevika Training Institute opens, training women as preschool educators and social workers.
Library & play centre
A children's library and play centre opens at Panchavati.
Balwadi opens
A balwadi (preschool) for underprivileged children opens at Panchavati.
Jayamahal premises open
Our Jayamahal premises are opened by His Excellency Sri Dharmaveera, Governor of Karnataka.
A new name for a new era
Renamed from the Mysore State Council for Child Welfare to the Karnataka State Council for Child Welfare (KSCCW).
Five children's homes open
Homes for destitute children open in Davangere, Dharwad, Mysore, Mandya and Madikeri district.
Balasevika Training programme
The Balasevika Training programme expands to Davangere, Dharwad, Mysore, Mandya and Madikeri.
Anganwadi Training Programme
The Anganwadi Training Programme is started.
Lokasundari Raman Hostel
The Lokasundari Raman Hostel for Working Women is inaugurated by Smt. Chandra Govind Narain.
Land gifted in Madikeri
Field Marshal K. C. Cariappa donates one acre of land in Madikeri to KSCCW for child welfare programmes.
Shishuraksha project begins
The Shishuraksha Family Helper Project starts with the aid of the Christian Children's Fund.
IYC Centre, RT Nagar
The International Year of the Child (IYC) Centre opens in RT Nagar, by Sri Veerappa Moily and Smt. Sabitha Chandran.
Adoption Scrutiny begins
Adoption Scrutiny is started.
Madikeri Children's Home
Foundation stone laid for a Children's Home at Madikeri, on the land donated by Field Marshal K. C. Cariappa.
National Award for Child Welfare
Recognised nationally with the National Award in Child Welfare.
Sharanya Children's Home
Sharanya Children's Home starts at the IYC Building, RT Nagar, Bangalore, to care for and protect girl children.
Deinstitutionalisation project
A deinstitutionalised care project is set up.
Education Sponsorship
The Educational Sponsorship Programme begins; today it supports children from primary school to college.
Elimination of Child Labour
An International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour is started with the support of the International Labour Organisation.
Honoured at Rashtrapati Bhavan
Awarded the Sri Radha Raman Memorial National Award for Child Welfare as the best-performing State Council.
Balroshni Project
The Balroshni Project starts, for children with special needs.

The Rajiv Gandhi National Crèche Scheme is set up.

A livelihood-skills Tailoring Unit is set up for young women from nearby communities.
Non-Formal Education
The Non-Formal Education programme is started.
Golden Jubilee
KSCCW celebrated its Golden Jubilee year, and the Dr. Sharayu Bhatia Samaja Kalyana Kendra was inaugurated.
Reading Room & Recreation Centre
A Reading Room and Recreation Centre for children opens.
Bal Vidya School
The Bal Vidya School development programme is started.
Meera Nayak Endowment Fund
The Meera Nayak Endowment Fund is established - sponsorship for professional course students.
Mahiti Kendra
The Mahiti Kendra project is started.
Physiotherapy Centre
A physiotherapy unit for children with special needs is started.
